iERA were honoured to host an exhibition entitled Discover Islam, organised by The Islington Turkish, Kurdish Cypriot Women’s Welfare Group (ITKC) at Islington Town Hall.
The objective of the event was to clarify, explain and present Islam in all its beauty, providing an alternative to the current negative portrayal of Islam and Muslims that has become the trend in the media.
iERA’s Head of UK & EU Outreach, Abu Tayyeb had the privilege of hosting the event and delivering a presentation on Islamic Values, alongside a diverse panel of speakers including Colin Adams MBE who spoke about hate crime in Islington, Imam Abdul Wahid Stephenson who spoke about the 5 Pillars of Islam and Shaykh Muawiyah Tucker who shared his journey to Islam.
The event was most notably attended by The Mayor of Islington, Councillor Una O’Halloran who remarked that she was in full support of such events which are much needed especially in the time we live in.
iERA’s Imran Hussein and Murtaza Choudhary were responsible for networking with the special guests which included a member of the council and other local religious leaders and providing iERA’s literature for those interested in learning more about Islam. The material was very warmly received and a number of guests were surprised that such materials were there being offered for free. One attendee remarked that “there are many departments within the council who should have access to this learning experience. I feel the same programme should be rolled out ASAP!”
