As-salamu’alaykum Brothers and Sisters
I pray this message reaches you in the best of health and eman.
Alhamdulillah, January has been a very active start to 2016, and I want to use this opportunity to share some of the key activities from this month, which your generous donations have supported.
Education and Research
The Education and Research department have been extremely busy empowering the Muslim community with the intellectual arguments to compassionately articulate the message of Islam to the wider community. Their work has also focussed on tackling narratives that question the existence of God, the prophethood of our beloved Messenger (peace be upon him), and the Islamic worldview in general.
The team travelled to Hastings to deliver dawah training and help the local Muslim community compassionately and intelligently convey Islam to their friends, neighbours and the wider community. See here for more.
The ‘Failed Hypothesis?’ Workshop – Manchester
The education team travelled to Manchester to deliver the “Failed Hypothesis? Islam, the Qur’an and Science” workshop on Saturday 16th January 2016. The workshop addressed how Islam encourages scientific enquiry, that Darwinism is not a problem for Muslims, and how the key assumptions of science require God’s existence. The workshop presented the orthodox approach in understanding science and revelation. See here for more.
Islamic Awareness Week – University Lectures
iERA have launched our dedicated one-stop-shop for University Islamic Societies (ISOC’s) in the UK to receive the necessary resources and support to deliver a successful Islam Awareness Week (IAW) on campus.
From the second week of February until the middle of March, the education team will be travelling across the UK to deliver lectures and workshops at University Islamic societies.
Hamza Andreas Tzortzis is one of the key speakers for this year’s Federation of Student Islamic Societies (FOSIS) tour. He will be delivering lectures across the country on the topic: “YOLO: You Only Live Once?”
The lecture will address the claim that many religions and ideologies claim that life continues beyond our own realm of perception. In essence, it will articulate the evidence for the truth of Islam and its claim of an afterlife.
The Global Dawah Movement Show
The GDM (Global Dawah Movement) show is currently on its 31st episode, and to date, the team have comprehensively addressed popular academic arguments against Islamic thought.
You can watch all the GDM shows here. Global Dawah Movement.

Public Relations and Media
Does Islam Need A Reformation?
In light of the ongoing conflict in Syria and Iraq involving the so-called “Islamic State”, and closer to home with last November’s tragic Paris attacks, the debate surrounding Islam and reformation has once again resurfaced.
In response to the above, iERA’s Public Relations and Media team kicked off 2016 by preparing for our next ‘Don’t Hate, Debate!’ entitled, ‘Does Islam Need A Reformation?’ in London, on Friday 26th February 2016.
The cross-panel debate will be chaired by Lauren Booth and she will be joined by: Tom Holland (Author and Historian), Dr Taj Hargey (Muslim Educational Centre of Oxford), Zara Faris (Muslim Debate Initiative), Theo Hobson (Cambridge University), Safaruk Chowdhury (Al Azhar University and SOAS) and Abdullah al Andalusi (Muslim Debate Initiative).
New ‘Don’t Hate, Debate!’ Website
This month, the PR and Media team were also proud to announce the launch of the new ‘Don’t Hate, Debate!’ website, which showcases all the previous debates, essays and biographies of chairpersons and panelists. Check the website out at http://www.donthatedebate.org!
Normative Islam Report
In addition to this, our head of department Mohammed Hussain has been working closely with an array of Muslim organisations and leaders across the UK in preparation for the launch of the ‘Normative Islam Report’ next month at the London Muslim Centre.
On Sunday 24th January 2016, iERA’s Muslim Now department was invited to the second TIES UK conference by Ameena Blake, at the Muslim Student House in Birmingham. The event was organised to help support organisations working with new Muslims. Click here for more information.
The One Community team have been working tirelessly during the first month of 2016, focusing on developing new teams across the UK.
Feeding The Homeless
On Sunday 3rd January 2016, One Community volunteers helped “The Children of Adam” group feed the homeless in Holborn, Central London. This included assistance with their soup kitchen, handing out food, hot drinks and clothes to the needy for the winter nights.
Monthly Neighbourhood Cleanups
One Community teams across Britain continued with their neighbourhood cleanup campaigns. They cleaned their local areas and engaged with the general non-Muslim public, by speaking to them about Islam.

The One Community team in London carried out the Elderly Care “Winter Warmth” campaign on Tuesday 19th January 2016. Working in collaboration with Elders Voice. The team collected new clothes and items funded by the local Muslim community, and distributed them to the elderly, in order to keep them warm during the winter.

Help The Homeless Campaign
On the evening of Saturday 30th January 2016, iERA’s One Community volunteers launched the ‘Help the Homeless’ campaign, an initiative to help the neediest in our society – the homeless. Over 40 food parcels were handed out to the homeless along The Strand in London. The team attracted a lot of attention with their distinctive hoodies displaying the “We are One Community” message on the back. See more here.

We Need Your Support!
My dearest brothers and sisters in Islam, the work that iERA are looking to carry out in 2016 will not be possible without the help of Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) and your generous sadaqa.
I ask you all, for the sake of Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) and the betterment of Islam, to continue supporting iERA with your health and wealth.
May Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala) reward you all abundantly in this life and the Hereafter, and count you amongst those which He (subhanahu wa ta’ala) says:
“Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining righteousness and forbidding evil. And it is they who are the successful.” [Surah Al Imran, verse 104]
