CEO Update – March 2015

As salaam alaykum Brothers and Sisters

I hope this message reaches you all in the best of health and eman.

Alhamdulillah, it’s been a very busy month for iERA, so here is a quick round-up of March’s activities.

Strategic and Organisational Changes

Our new Head of Community Development, Abu Tayeb Khairdeen, has successfully made the first major step towards establishing a new iERA office in the north by moving our distribution hub to Newcastle for further cost savings. He has also been very proactive in building iERA’s national community initiatives with prominent non-Muslim organisations like ‘United Against Fascism’ and ‘Show Racism the Red Card’, mash’Allah.

Our new Head of PR and Media, Mohammed Hussain, has been appearing on numerous television channels including the BBC and ITV to discuss the role of Islam in society, as well as the rise of Islamophobia in the UK. Additionally, he has been meeting with journalists from the mainstream newspapers in an attempt to build a relationship with these outlets to help promote iERA’s work in the media. Mohammed currently writes for a wide range of mainstream and reputable publications, where he disseminates iERA’s Islamic narrative for a cohesive and peaceful society.

Education and Research

Mission Dawah

The Mission Dawah team continues to push the mass dawah movement by supporting teams in the UK and internationally. They have held UK dawah missions with teams in Bedford, Milton Keynes, London and elsewhere around the country. This was coupled with the delivery of dawah courses in many towns and cities too.

We are launching our new campaign entitled, ‘Who Do You Love?’ designed to help Muslims share the love they have for the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ with others. On Saturday 16th May 2015, thousands of volunteers will be running this campaign in 50 countries across 6 continents, all asking the same question: ‘Who Do You Love?’

For further information, please visit Facebook.com/MissionDawah to see what else they’ve been doing.

One Reason

The One Reason website has been updated with new content and also made fully accessible across a range of smartphone and tablet devices. See www.OneReason.org

One Reason has been sending out free material to the dawah teams in the UK and around the world, as well as supporting lots of University Islamic societies across the UK with material for the annual Islamic Awareness Week, which has now come to an end.

The team have additionally printed thousands of new initiation cards as part of the ‘Convey One Verse’ campaign that have already been posted out to dawah teams to help support their public engagement work.

The One Reason team have produced a new video for non-Muslims on the topic of ‘Gratitude’, which has received to date a massive 54,059 views on social media.

You can watch it here: http://www.onereason.org/videos/a-free-gift/

We are also planning for the publication of several new books, which we hope to translate into different languages insha’Allah. Namely, two new books, one entitled, ‘Who Do You Love?’ about the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and the ‘The Eternal Challenge’ on the Qur’an.

Finally, an exciting new project that will be starting soon is a free 12-week advanced online dawah course in partnership with the Islamic Online University. Stay tuned for more updates on that.

One Community

Muslim Now

The Muslim Now team continues to provide services to support our new Muslim community. Over the past couple of months the team has held monthly webinars, sent newsletters and posted out approximately 100 New Muslim packs.

The team has recently agreed to roll out a ‘New Muslim Friendly’ campaign with various major mosques around the UK. This will be a targeted campaign to help new Muslims and train others to help support them.

On April 30th, iERA will be holding a four day educational retreat entitled ‘The Journey of Life’ which will empower new Muslims to grow in knowledge and build a deeper connection with Allah ﷻ.

Regional Activities

We are continuing with our plans to develop several major cities around the UK. Below are some of our highlights over March:

For ‘Islam Awareness Week’, our team of speakers and instructors visited a number of universities, including SOAS, the University of Nottingham, the University of Birmingham, and Kings College London to deliver a variety of talks, presentations and workshops about Islam.

On the other side of the pond, Hamza Tzortzis spent six days in Michigan (USA) to deliver a range of lectures, the “No Doubt” weekend workshop, and outreach to the wider community.

We delivered a full day dawah training course in Bedford and a mini dawah training course in Milton Keynes.

On Friday 13th March 2015, iERA instructors, Subboor Ahmad and Salahuddin Patel travelled to Milan for a two day outreach event, which was funded by a local dawah team in Italy. This consisted of a workshop on how to share the foundations of Islam in a clear and concise manner, and a practical day of engaging the local population in dialogue and conversations about Islam. The aim of these activities was to build bridges of understanding between communities, and address misconceptions they may have about Islam and Muslims.

New Dawah Campaign

This month’s key focus has been on the development and launch of our new ‘Who Do You Love?’ campaign, which aims to help Muslims share the love they have for the Prophet Muhammad (upon whom be peace) with others.

This is in the run up to a ‘Global Messenger Day’ on Saturday 16th May 2015, where thousands of volunteers will be participating in this campaign in 50 countries across 6 continents.

To kickstart the campaign, the iERA team headed up by our chairman, Abdurraheem Green, visited the iconic Leicester Square in central London, to tell people about why we love the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Allah ﷻ chose to guide a young man to Islam that night with us. May Allah make him steadfast upon the deen. Ameen.

Launch of our new Value Campaigns

Islam Is Green

On Saturday 7th March 2015, alongside the ‘Time to Act 2015’ demonstration against climate change, iERA launched its very first environmental campaign entitled ‘Islam is Green’. The event saw iERA teams engaging with members of the public, and educating them on the Islamic perspective on environmental care and preservation. The ‘Islam is Green’ campaign also included the official launch of Islam Is Green, a website designed to empower Muslims in tackling climate change, and fulfilling their religious duties towards nature.

Against Racism, Against Hatred

As a follow up to iERA’s ‘Against Racism, Against Hatred’ campaign, on Saturday 21st March 2015, we officially partnered with a host of non-Muslim organisations for the international ‘Stand Up To Racism’ day, where thousands of people from around the world marched against racism, fascism and Islamophobia. iERA mobilised teams of volunteers across the UK on the day of the national demonstration, and thousands of people warmed to our literature explaining the Islamic perspective on racism. Your Support for iERA

To conclude, I pray this short newsletter allows you to appreciate the hard work that the iERA team is doing. Please continue to remember us in your prayers and support us in the dawah.

May Allah ﷻ count us all amongst the righteous and successful, about which He (SWT) says:

“Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining righteousness and forbidding evil. And it is they who are the successful.”
– Surah Al Imran, verse 104
