Home News CEO UPDATE – APRIL 2015

As salaam alaykum Brothers and Sisters

I hope this message reaches you all in the best of health and eman.

Alhamdulillah, it’s been a very busy month for iERA, so here is a quick round-up of April’s activities.

Over the last year we have listened to our supporters and recognise that iERA has had a stronger presence in the south than elsewhere in the UK. This was partly due to iERA’s head office and core staff being situated in London.

In order to tackle this, we have now successfully established a new iERA office in the north in Newcastle, where our new Community Development team will be situated. Headed by Abu Tayeb Khairdeen (Head of Community Development), the new office also includes storage facilities and will act as our material distribution centre, led by a new team of volunteers. This also supports our objective of reducing costs and providing better value services.

We hope our office will be a hub for the north, from where we can run our activities and further strengthen our support for the dawah teams and organisations of the region inshaa’Allah.

See below for a round-up of the various teams activities this month:

iERA’s head of PR and Media, Mohammed Hussain, has made numerous media appearances, which include ITV’s new daytime programme, the O’Brien Show to discuss the rise of Islamophobia in the UK, as well as being invited on to SKY News to debate whether Islam is compatible with British values. Mohammed has also begun discussions for iERA to be included in future documentaries on Islam in Britain and the rise of Islamophobia in Europe.

Over the past few months we have also been planning for the publication of two new books, which we hope to translate into many different languages insha’Allah. One is entitled, ‘Who Do You Love?’ about the Prophet Muhammad (upon whom be peace), and the other is ‘The Eternal Challenge’ which is a book about the miraculous nature of the Qur’an.

Additionally, iERA partnered up with the Islamic Online University for an exciting new project, which consists of a free 12-week advanced online diploma. More than 3,600 people from around the world registered for the first class delivered by our Head of Education and Research, Hamza Tzortzis.

iERA were also honoured to be invited to deliver a bespoke six-day training course on dawah and Islamic thought. This was presented to the students and faculty of the internationally renowned Islamic University of Madinah. Read more here

The One Reason website has recently undergone a revamp. View the updated website here:

One Reason continues to send out thousands of items of free material to the dawah teams in the UK and around the world as well as supporting many University Islamic societies (ISOC’s).

The recent video for non-Muslims on the topic of ‘Gratitude’, has now received a massive 58,460 views on social media. View it here: http://www.onereason.org/videos/a-free-gift/

The Mission Dawah team continues to push the mass dawah movement by supporting teams around the world. They have held UK and international dawah missions in the run up to the ‘Who Do You Love?’ campaign with teams in Philadelphia, Turkey, Madinah, Texas, London, and elsewhere. This was coupled with the delivery of dawah courses in many towns and cities across the UK.

This month’s key focus has been on the development and launch of our new ‘Who Do You Love?’ campaign, which aims to help Muslims convey their love for the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ by sharing some of the Islamic values He ﷺ taught and espoused with the general public.

Volunteer dawah teams around the world have already commenced the campaign with many new teams joining the dawah movement. The eventual culmination of this campaign is a ‘Global Messenger Day’ on Saturday 16th May 2015, where thousands of volunteers will be participating in 50 countries across 6 continents.

In the UK we will be running the Global Messenger Day in London. To register, visit www.MissionDawah.com

Our Community Development team have done a great job in building iERA’s national community development initiatives, partnering up with prominent non-Muslim organisations like ‘Unite Against Fascism’, ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ and ‘Shelter’, mashaa’Allah.

On Saturday 4th April 2015, iERA took part in the second anti-Pegida rally in London. The rally was organised by Unite Against Fascism (UAF) to counter the UK Pegida wing of the German far-right group.

This was a continuation of our ‘Against Racism, Against Hatred’ campaign, which in February 2015 included Mohammad Hussain and Hamza Tzortzis speaking at the first anti-Pegida rally in Newcastle.

iERA’s Subboor Ahmed joined speakers from different organisations on the stage to deliver motivational speeches on the dangers of racism and Islamophobia. The iERA team engaged in positive dialogue with the general public during the day by informing them of the Islamic solution in eradicating racism in society. See the video below:

The Muslim Now team continues to provide services to support our new Muslim community. Over the past couple of months the team has held webinars and posted out welcome packs to new Muslims around the UK.

The team has recently rolled out a number of new Muslim events this month with various major mosques and Islamic centres, including Edinburgh, Birmingham and Cork, Ireland. This is an ongoing campaign targeted at training the Muslim community to support new Muslims.

On Thursday 30th April, iERA also organised a four day retreat for new Muslims, to help strengthen their understanding on the fundamentals of Islam.  The event was held in a warm and friendly learning environment where the many attendees could relax with other newcomers to the deen, and also share their experiences.
