Failed Hypothesis? Islam, The Qur’an & Science

December 31, 2015 @ 9:15 am - 6:00 pm

A one day workshop on the beauty of science, its scope, limitations and philosophy.

The day will include presentations on how Islam encourages scientific enquiry, that Darwinism is not a problem for Muslims, and how the key assumptions of science require God’s existence.

There will also be an exclusive presentation on the fact that there are no scientific miracles in the Qur’an, and it will present a new and more robust approach in reconciling science and revelation.

Conference Lectures:

1. Lost Legacy: Islam’s Influence on Modern Science – Dr Ayaat Bashir
2. Revisable: The Beauty, Limitations and Problems with Science – Hamza Andreas Tzortzis
3. Darwinism 2.0: The Changing Face of Evolution – Subboor Ahmad
4. Designed to Discover: How The Key Assumptions of Science Need God – Imran Hussein
5. The Failed Hypothesis: A New Approach in Reconciling Science and the Qur’an – Hamza Andreas Tzortzis
6. Open Q&A – All

Presentations Will Be Delivered By:

Dr Ayaat Bashir

A practicing medical doctor and a published science researcher. She will be addressing how Islam promotes scientific enquiry, as well as focussing on the historical manifestations of Islamic values, and how they led to European progress and enlightenment.

Hamza Tzortzis

Currently a postgraduate student of philosophy, as well as a student of Islamic thought. He will be speaking on the topic of the philosophy of science, as well as articulating why we can’t claim there are scientific miracles in the Qur’an.

Subboor Ahmad

After attaining a degree in engineering, he is now studying the philosophy of biology. He will be speaking about the changes that have occurred in our understanding of Darwinism, as well as the key conceptual, sociological and philosophical issues currently alive in academia.

Imran Hussein

Following a BSc in engineering, Imran is now a student of Islamic thought. He will address the fact that the underlying assumptions of science – cognitive faculties we trust and a conceivable universe – are best explained by God’s existence.
